The
weather was perfect for the South Hams Audax on Sunday 31 August 2003.
There were two rides, the Dartmoor ride and the easier ride down to
the coast and Slapton. I do say "easier ride" but I took
the "easier ride", and we were either going up a hill and
coming down most of the time! |
|
We
set off at from South Brent and cycled to Harford, Cornwood and down
to Ivybridge, Penquit to our first control at Avonwick Inn. |
|
Elizabeth and
Grace coming up a hill just outside South Brent.
|
|
We
got to the first control at Avonwick and found the local garage doing
some running repairs for the lads. From here we went onto Diptford
Moreleigh, Strete and down into Torcross. |
|
The
route then took us across to Slapton and just coming into Slapton
we had this wonderful view of the bay. |
|
This was taken
just leaving Torcross and shows the sea on one side of the road
with the fresh water lake on the other
|
|
This
view was taken just before the descent into the "tidal road"
and the next part of our cycle ride went along the right hand side
of this estuary. You can see Kingsbridge in the distance. We then
folowed the road through South Pool, Chillington and back to Harbertonford. |
