I
was disappointed for Danny the weather broke for his Cornish
100k. We have had some wonderful weather in Cornwall recently
but on this ride we had wind, rain and the Cornish mist! The
ride was well organized with hot drinks served before the start
and as the ride was in a "figure 8" we returned to
Barripper where food and drinks were served for lunch. The first
part of the ride took us down to St Erth, across to Marazion
where we had beautiful views of Mounts Bay. The route continued
up through the back roads to Bal West and across to Rinsey where
we cycled down into with some breathtaking views of Porthleven
Harbour but again this was rather spoilt by the mist.. Returning
to Barripper was quiet pleasant, we only had a little mist and
the weather appeared to be easing. After lunch we were taken
up to Beacon onto Stithians and down to Boswin just outside
Penryn. The roads were very quiet and cycling would have been
very pleasant had if not been for the heavy rain and headwind.
We were taken across the A390 and then off again down to Gweek
where I met the "lads" from the Falmouth Wheelers.
We were all wet, cold and having trouble reading our wet instructions
but somehow we were all in good spirits! After a quick stop
I set off again out of Gweek, crossing the main road onto Trenear,
Farmers Commons and cross country dropping down into Barripper.
A well thought out route and well organized by Danny Mckernan
and the Falmouth Wheelers. Congratulations to them all.
